Craig Barrow

Craig Barrow is a designer working across objects, sculpture and spaces. His practice is rooted in close observation of patterns, materials and relationships, both human and natural, and explores how things are made, how systems behave and how people interact with objects and environments. Through processes of abstraction, imitation and recontextualisation, these observations evolve into new forms and environments that become the basis of his work.
His practice spans objects, sculpture, scenography, spatial design, furniture and beyond, with clients and collaborators including Virgil Abloh, Nike, Peggy Gou, and Refraction DAO. For IRL, Craig designed the IRL Touchpoint, the 3D printed check-in device at the heart of the IRL Tour, that lets attendees tap their phone to check in and earn points at events worldwide. Born in Nottingham, UK, Craig studied 3D Design at the University of Brighton and now lives and works in Berlin.
From synth shops to sake bars, Craig maps the Berlin that shapes how he sees and makes. For our IRL Map to Berlin, Craig shares seven spots across the city, from the world’s most famous synth shop to a hidden art space on the Spree.

ACID Mitte
A sourdough bakery and coffee spot that’s become a Berlin staple. Started in 2017, Acid has grown from a tiny operation into one of the city’s most loved cafes, with locations in Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. The kardamom knots alone are worth the visit.

SchneidersLaden - Shop
Probably the most famous synthesizer shop in the world. Founded by Andreas Schneider (also the founder of Superbooth), SchneidersLaden is a pilgrimage site for anyone into modular synths, drum machines, and electronic instruments. Workshops every Thursday

Ikii
An intimate listening space for sound and art, pairing HiFi audio with wine and sake. Open Wednesday through Saturday, Ikii is the kind of place where you slow down, listen closely, and discover something new.

Wax On Bar
Named the best bar in Germany in 2024, this Neukölln cocktail bar on Weserstraße serves classic cocktails with a twist, using ingredients from their in-house basement lab. No reservations, walk-ins only.

Café Tiergarten
First opened in 1957 but after many years of closure, reopened it’s doors last year, restored to it’s former glory with a contemporary edge under new ownership.

Grotto
An independent space for contemporary art and culture in Hansaviertel. Exhibitions, performances, concerts, listening sessions, monthly readings and an annual independent art book fair. Founded by Simon Freund and Leonie Herweg.
