Venue Highlight: La Cale

La Cale is a club built inside a wooden dhow moored on the Bouregreg River in Rabat. The name means the hull of a boat. That is exactly where you end up.
It opened to give Rabat something the city did not have. A room for alternative music that is safe, comfortable and free from judgment, where house and disco sit next to deep tech, minimal, amapiano and afrohouse. The wooden hull does half the acoustic work. A fine-tuned system and rebuilt lighting do the rest.
The other half of the project is the city itself. Rabat is the capital of Morocco and still one of the least documented music cities in the region. La Cale is a platform for Moroccan artists and a landing point for the ones passing through, programmed by the team at Kasbah Groove, who also run Apéros Électroniques, Bassline, the La Cale Listening Bar and La Ola Rooftop. Three words hold the whole thing together. Drink, dance, float.
