6 Phone-Free Music Spots in Mexico City with Sunshine Vendetta

Sunshine Vendetta has spent most of their life building physical experiences — from early underground parties to large-scale productions, and later through music, internet-native projects, and experimental systems across art and culture. Today, their focus is back on the room itself: how sound, privacy, and intention shape the way people connect at night.

Although they no longer live in Mexico City, the city remains their reference point. Each return recalibrates their sense of energy, pacing, and atmosphere. The places they’re drawn to are not about spectacle, but about presence, spaces where phones are discouraged and listening with intention is prioritized.

Below, Sunshine Vendetta shares six phone-free music spots to visit in Mexico City.

Hotel Volga Hotel Volga is my favorite spot in the city. It attracts people passing through and people deeply rooted in the city without forcing anything. Conversations happen naturally and nights extend without pressure. One of my favorite things about Volga is how it is built around privacy first. Even when the hotel is full, it feels empty in the right way. Phones are not welcome for photographing guests, which keeps the energy calm and intentional.

Minos Soundroom Minos Soundroom sits on the lower level of Hotel Volga, which makes it the perfect continuation of a night there. This is a go with a date type of place, alone or with friends, all situations are perfect to be here. The room is intimate, the sound system is serious, and the crowd is there to listen. DJs play long formats, among deep, afro, sometimes progressive or techno.

Yu Yu Yu Yu is ultra energetic from the moment you step in. Some of the best DJs in the city and the world play here regularly, which keeps the programming sharp and current. The room is fast, sociable, and intense in the right way. The events sometimes are totally unpredictable either on attendance or intensity, but music quality is always the highest here. No phones are allowed inside, and security enforces it strictly, using one can get you removed.

Drama Bar Drama Bar on Sundays is non-negotiable for me. The music is consistently stronger than anything else happening that day, and the crowd ends up broader and more international without trying to be. People from all over the city and outside Mexico show up naturally. It always feels alive and the location is amazing, do yourself a favor and come over, plus every DJ set here is recorded, streamed and saved for future archive.

M.N. Roy This club is built around continuity, patience, and long-form nights. A deep programming, and a crowd that understands pacing rather than spectacle. M.N. Roy is a members-only club, and no photos are allowed inside under any circumstance. From time to time tickets are released, but access is never guaranteed. You can also try showing up directly. On some nights the door is strict, other nights it’s more relaxed.

Phonique Phonique is where you go when you are not near Roma. I see it as the newer M.N. Roy equivalent for Polanco and Lomas. The concept is strong, the scale is right, and the bookings are consistent. Big international names play there often alongside some of the most respected local talents in the city.
